A Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Review

The original A Nightmare on Elm Street was the first horror film I watched alone in a movie theater and that was after 3 days without sleep; see my VF journal. To ‘get in the spirit’, I decided to skip sleep for a few days prior to seeing the reboot.
Let me start by saying that I felt Jackie Earle Haley did an excellent job. This Freddy is dark and very creepy. I also found the makeup to be incredibly well done. Unfortunately, there is far too much direct light on Freddy, a fatal mistake that takes away some of the scare factor.
In fact, even without having slept for the past few days, I simply did not find this movie to be intensely scary. But it does have moments that will get you to jump.
I do have a mixed view of the CGI but did find the cinematography to be stylish and thought it provided the film with a solid atmosphere. The supporting cast seemed adequate, but not much else. I actually like the actors chosen for the film, but none of them seemed willing/able to provide a stand out performance; this may have been due to the direction.
Even with the drawbacks, I found the film to be fun and worth the watch. What can I say, I enjoyed the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
