Angelspit, Hideous and Perfect Music Review

Artist: Angelspit
Album: Hideous and Perfect
Release Date: September 2009
Label: Metropolis Records
Genre: Industrial

With their most recent album, Angelspit has returned once more to assault listeners with their specialized brand of full tilt, rage-fueled, unadulterated industrial: and the end result is, indeed, near perfection. The Australian duo debuted in 2004 with their self-released EP, Nurse Grenade, and have been enrapturing audiences and shattering conventions ever since. One of the rare bands that, I feel, improves with each successive release, Hideous and Perfect is without a doubt their most refined album to date.

Ravishing and vicious, Angelspit’s style is the probable end result if each of the seven deadly sins were to be simultaneously assimilated and injected into the bloodstream; Hideous and Perfect continues this wicked trend, diving headlong into a mix of aggressive electro-industrial with tracks “Fink” and “Fuck the Revolution”. “Fink”, a personal favorite of the album, captivates with the grating and gyrating style of industrial that the band has become known for: a no-holds-barred barrage of raw electro. Lyrically, the album stands strong alongside their other releases; Angelspit is known for their ferocious critique of humanity and society thought their music, Hideous and Perfect being no exception. The eighth track of the album, “Let Them Eat Distortion”, features some of the best lyrical imagery of the album: “Dried up vacated, girl mutilating / Vindication sits where her curls use to be / The smoking, the squealing, cut throat vixen / Ashes outline where a king used to plea”. In addition to its lyrical prowess, Hideous and Perfect showcases some of Angelspit’s best musical talent to date; the ninth track of the album, “Hyperlust” is its namesake in essence: a provocative and licentious shot of arousing industrial.

One of the best industrial releases of 2009, Hideous and Perfect is just that: a gorgeously virulent mix of sound. Immediately enticing and addictive, it’s an album sure to demand attention and amass reverence.

Final Summation: 5 out of 5 stars.
