The Unclean

The Southern Vampire Mysteries, also known as the Sookie Stackhouse novels, are a first-person account by Sookie Stackhouse, barmaid and telepath in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie’s telepathic powers manifested as a child, and her parents initially considered her to be mentally ill.
The minds of humans are easier for Sookie to read, though this also varies depending on the individual. Supernatural beings, on the other hand, tend to give her far difficulty. Vampires seem impossible to read, leading her to be more comfortable with (and dating) the vampire Bill Compton.
