The Unclean

Rose Hathaway is a half-human/half-vampire, known as a Dhampir. Her best friend Vasilisa (Lissa) is a Moroi princess. They have both been on the run for two years from the authorities of the St. Vladimir’s Academy where they both went to school. They are eventually caught by a group of the schools guardians led by Dimitri Belikov, and are sent back to the Academy in Montana.

Rose and Lissa’s lives are complicated because they were in a car accident a few years before which claimed the lives of Lissa’s parents and brother, but left the girls unhurt. After the accident, the two girls developed a rare magical bond which allows Rose to feel Lissa’s emotions and sometimes see things through her. Lissa also finds herself capable of healing things, the result of a rare spirit magic she possesses. Once back at the Academy, Rose and Lissa adjust back to the school’s work and complex social life. Rose finds herself behind on her guardian education, and is put to take extra practices with Dimitri. While training with Dimitri, Rose finds herself increasingly attracted to him.
