LA Times: As Radcliffe walks away from the last decade’s shining success of the British film community — the “Potter” movies… he steps into a project that taps into an older and edgier part of U.K. cinema lore: “The Woman in Black” is being made under the banner of Hammer Film Productions, the most revered brand name in European horror… Radcliffe said. “Hammer is the company that everybody wants to see succeed. It’s such a part of our film heritage. It was a massive producer of films in its heyday — they were really prolific, there were tons of them — and with actors like Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. It’s wonderful to see that company, that name, in a resurgence.”

It’s been 30 plus years since the last Hammer Film Production was released and most horror fans are probably eagerly waiting their return. Which is already underway with this Octobers release of “Let Me In,” and the recently wrapped production of “The Resident”.

Back then, I had watched the film several times, and really enjoyed the dark, gloomy atmosphere, the truly bad bad-guys and the pure acts of revenge.

Stephen Norrington (‘Blade’) had already penned a script for The Crow that takes place in the Southwest and also in an urban setting. According to The Wrap however, Nick Cave has been asked to rewrite the material.

The Wrap: Well apparently Norrington’s take wasn’t quite “terrific” enough, as Pressman recently told TheWrap that none other than iconic musician and acclaimed screenwriter Nick Cave has come on to rewrite the script.

It also appears that soon the there will be an announcement about who will land the role of Eric Draven and that the crow itself will be more of an actual character than in Alex Proyas’ 1994 original.

John Carpenter’s The Thing was a great film. I truly hope the prequel takes the material very seriously and delivers a good story filled with a solid level of gore & pure horror.

“Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller THE THING, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.”

Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr. is directing the film with Eric Heisserer and Ronald D. Moore providing the screenplay The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Jonathan Walker, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Dennis Storhøi, Trond Espen Seim, Jørgen Langhelle, Eric Christian Olsen, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jan Gunnar Røise, Kristofer Hivju, and Jo Adrian Haavind.

It's really no surprise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has put out some very impressive numbers for the midnight release. IT surpassed The Twilight Saga: New Moon's previous benchmark of $26.3 million.

It’s really no surprise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has put out some very impressive numbers for the midnight release.

From BoxOfficeMojo: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ripped into the record books with its midnight launch, grossing over $30 million at more than 4,000 theaters. That surpassed The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s previous benchmark of $26.3 million. Included in Eclipse’s sum was a new IMAX midnight milestone of over $1 million at 192 venues, topping Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’s $959,000.

Additionally, the first Twilight and New Moon were re-issued as a one-off, pre-Eclipse double-feature Thursday night at 2,037 theaters and made $2.4 million. Previously, Twilight took in $1.3 million in its re-issue the night before New Moon’s opening.

With the dire hard fans, a great weekend release date & the substantial (although not record breaking) number of locations, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has certainly made a very impressive midnight launch. IMHO, it was brilliant to do the double features and re-releases for the fans.
